I May Live in Interesting Times
2008 Closes (Thank God), 2009 Opens
2008 was a pretty rough year for me for any number of reasons. Then December rolled around, and all of a sudden the train shot out of the tunnel and all was sunshine, fresh air, butterflies, and bunny rabbits, and 2009 is looking rather amazing (he said, jinxing himself horribly).
I'm a little startled by how excited Ace and my agent are about Elegy Beach. The novel took five years to write, partially because I almost accidentally became a well-known DJ during this time and have spent much of the last three years focusing on that. When you live with creating something that long, you kind of lose perspective on it. It's like living near a volcano; after a while it's just part of the landscape. And then the thing erupts, and you remember that, oh, yeah, you live next to a volcano.
With the acquisition this recent I don't have a lot of details — in fact, it's amazing that we've already got a release date, that the date is so soon, and that we're already discussing cover concepts & such. I'll definitely keep y'all informed as we progress.
My writing website will be getting a makeover in the coming months as well. It's a bit Web 1.0, innit? I joke that it's the only site on the internet with dust on it, but truthfully it's just kinda staid & static for my taste, and I want to spruce it up a bit & let it point to the upcoming Elegy Beach and Ariel sites.
I'm happy to be able to send this newsletter out in time to wish you a great holiday season and a wonderful & safe New Year, and I look forward to the journeys we will take together in 2009 and beyond.
