New Audio & First ELEGY BEACH Review

Chapter 1 of the Elegy Beach audiobook is now on the Elegy Beach website. But you can listen here (ain’t I swell?):

I think narrator JD Jackson did an amazing job, and I can’t wait to hear the whole thing (what you think I’ve heard it yet? Yeesh).

Also, Library Journal just gave Elegy Beach its first official review:

Thirty years after technology ceased to work and magic returned to Earth, Fred and his friend Yan discover how to reverse “The Change” and set off a chain of events that includes a pursuit up the broken interior of California to stop a madman from destroying the world. The long-awaited sequel to the 1983 cult classic Ariel captures the reader’s attention from its first sentence (much like its predecessor), building in both intensity and intrigue until its unexpected but entirely appropriate conclusion. VERDICT Laced with humor in odd places, this postapocalyptic fantasy ranks with classics such as Walter M. Miller Jr.’s A Canticle for Leibowitz as an example of first-rate storytelling that serves up both a cautionary tale for the 21st century and an author’s masterwork. Highly recommended.

Wowie zowie! Thank you, Library Journal!

  1. Congrats on a phenomenal review!! I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of ELEGY BEACH!! The two chapters I read in the Ace/Putnam sampler left me wanting more!!! I actually felt a letdown at the end of chapter 2 when I turned the page and it wasn’t chapter 3! hehe

  2. Thank you so much! I claim to be too curmudgeonly to be affected by reviews, but this made my day. (Then again, I think you’d have to be a robot not to feel pretty good about a review like that.)

You can always skip ahead and read Chapter 13 on the Elegy Beach website

  3. “Congratulations” doesn’t come close to expressing how delighted I was to hear the news of your new books, and it never entered my mind that they’d receive ANYTHING but kudos. Truly, I’m grinning like a fool, totally pumped and planning my trip to Powells. Go ahead and celebrate, but leave room for lots more joy – sounds like you got plenty heading your way.

  4. Grats on first review! I’m just going to read it over and over again until that damn box from Amazon shows up. Congratulations!

  5. Dude, I’m happy as hell to once again be able to read about my favorite smart-assed unicorn…but why do all versions (audio and ebook) cost the same as the hardcover? I thought it was like this in the past:

    Hardcover: 30 bucks

    Softcover and audiobook: 12-14 bucks

    Ebook: 8-10 bucks

But, as Newt said in Kim Harrison’s novel, For A Few Demons More: “Sometimes I don’t remember the past right…or maybe they simply change it, and don’t tell me.”. Regardless, I will be picking this book up before December.

  6. I’m glad you’re happy about Elegy Beach! Re pricing, I can’t think of an author in commercial publishing who has anything whatsoever to do with the pricing of his or her books, whatever the format. I’m certainly no exception.
